The Independent Review Office is an independent statutory office that was established on 1 March 2021 under the Personal Injury Commission Act 2020 (NSW).
Our Independent Review Officer is supported by an expert team, the Office of the Independent Review Office (IRO).
Our statutory functions include:
- finding solutions for persons injured at work or in motor vehicle accidents who have complaints about their insurer;
- managing and administering the Independent Legal Assistance and Review Service (ILARS); and
- conducting inquiries into matters arising in connection with the operation of the Personal Injury Commission Act 2020 and the workers’ compensation and motor vehicle accident schemes.
Through our work in solving complaints or administering grants of legal funding we have helped tens of thousands of persons injured at work (and, since 2021, those injured in motor accidents) and insurers find fair solutions to complaints and claims. We had also made substantial recommendations to improve the personal injury statutory compensation schemes.
