Requesting information from us

You have the right to ask for information we hold.

There are two main ways to do this:

  • Make an informal request
  • Make a formal application

Make an informal request

If you can’t find the information on our website, you can ask us for it.

If the information is safe to share (for example, it doesn’t involve privacy or legal issues), we will usually give it to you without a formal process.

How to make an informal request

Make a formal access application

If the information:

  • is not on our website, and
  • cannot be provided through an informal request

you have the right to make a formal application under the law.

How to apply

You can apply in one of these ways:

What your application must include

Your application must include all of the following:

  • Clearly say you are applying under the GIPA Act
  • Include the $30 application fee
  • Include your name and contact details (email or postal address)
  • Clearly describe the information you want

If any of these are missing, your application may not be valid.

How long it takes

  • We will confirm we received your application within 5 working days
  • We will usually give you a decision within 20 working days

If we need more time, we will let you know in writing.
