Applying for grant funding

Approved Lawyers can apply for a grant of funding to provide legal advice and support to injured workers who are eligible for workers compensation entitlements.

A grant must be approved before an Approved Lawyer can claim legal costs (including professional fees and disbursements) from the IRO.

What the grant covers

A grant of funding may cover reasonable costs needed to progress a claim or dispute including

Referral to the IRO Engagement and Resolution Group

Some grant applications may be referred to the Engagement and Resolution Group within the IRO, where a dispute appears capable of early or straightforward resolution.

The IRO aims to resolve disputes quickly, fairly and cost effectively, and encourages Approved Lawyers to take a practical approach to achieving outcomes for workers.

Grant amounts and payments

Grant amounts are linked to the outcomes achieved.

Payment of legal costs will be made once you submit a compliant tax invoice in line with the ILARS Tax Invoice Guide.
