Report Provider Services

Obtaining evidence from medical and related practitioners is a routine part of the work performed by IRO Approved Lawyers. IRO provides funding for these and related expenses (disbursements) in accordance with the ILARS Funding Guidelines.

Approved Lawyers may engage Medical Report Providers (MRPs) to arrange, or obtain, medical evidence for use in making a claim, or challenging a decision of an insurer.

The types of disbursements that can be obtained from MRPs include:

  • Clinical notes
  • Treating doctor reports
  • Medicolegal reports

IRO can pay some MRPs directly for disbursements commissioned by Approved Lawyers where these services are required as part of an approved ILARS grant.

Medical Report Providers

IRO applies the Department of Customer Service Business Ethics Statement in dealing with any third party business. The IRO is reviewing MRP arrangements as part of its review of the ILARS Funding Guidelines in 2025.

The IRO will not be entering into any new MRP agreements at this time.

Fees payable

All fees payable for disbursements, including those obtained through MRPs, are specified in the ILARS Funding Guidelines.
Approved Lawyers are responsible for ensuring that the fee incurred for a category or type of disbursement, including where the disbursement is obtained from an MRP, complies with the gazetted rate.

Approved Lawyers are liable for the payment of GST and service fees for any services obtained through MRPs.
