New IRO Website and ILARS E-Learning Module Now Live

27 August 2026

In this update, I am pleased to announce the launch of the new IRO website and a new e-learning module developed to support Approved Lawyers following the workers compensation legislative reforms that commenced on 1 July 2026.

The new website provides improved access to information, guidance and resources, while the e-learning module offers practical support to help practitioners understand and apply the updated ILARS Funding Guidelines and Amending Instrument.

This update includes a guide to help you navigate the new website and details of the new e-learning module. I encourage you to explore these resources and share them with colleagues across your practice.

Explore the New IRO Website

The new IRO website is now live and has been redesigned to provide a more accessible, user-friendly experience across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.

The website includes improved navigation, enhanced search functionality and easier access to information, resources and services for Approved Lawyers, injured workers and other stakeholders.

To help you get started, we've created a guide highlighting key features of the new website, including:

  • Changes to the navigation and site structure
  • Enhanced search functionality
  • Easier access to frequently used information and services
  • Tips for finding forms, resources and publications
  • Information on updating bookmarks and accessing the website across devices

If you have saved links or bookmarks from the previous website, some page URLs may have changed. While redirects have been implemented where possible, we recommend updating frequently used bookmarks to ensure continued access to the latest information.

We will continue to refine and improve the website based on feedback from our users. As you explore the new site, we encourage you to complete the short feedback survey available on the website.

New E-Learning Module Available

To assist Approved Lawyers in understanding and applying the recent changes to the ILARS funding framework, IRO has also launched a new e-learning module:

Navigating ILARS Funding Guidelines: Insights for Legal Practitioners

The module provides practical guidance on the operation of the Amending Instrument and explores how the revised funding criteria apply in common funding scenarios.

Upon completion, participants will be better equipped to:

  • Understand the legislative amendments affecting ILARS funding
  • Apply the revised funding criteria in practice
  • Prepare and submit grant applications under the amended framework

Approved Lawyers are encouraged to complete the module to strengthen their understanding of the updated requirements and support the preparation of high-quality funding applications.

2026 Annual Performance Review

The IRO Annual Performance Review July 2025-June 2026 (pdf) is now available.

The report provides an overview of the IRO’s performance, achievements and outcomes over the 2025-26 financial year. It outlines how IRO has supported injured workers and people injured in motor accidents through its complaints handling services and the Independent Legal Assistance and Review Service (ILARS).

Upcoming IRO Webinar

The IRO will also host a webinar for Approved Lawyers on 10 September 2026 at 11:00 am. The session will provide an overview of the ILARS Guidelines Amending Instrument, including key changes and practical implications for Approved Lawyers. The webinar will conclude with a short 10-minute Q&A session, providing an opportunity to ask questions. Further details, including registration information, will be shared next week.
